Team Athlete Matters target Lymm

Team Athlete Matters, triathlon team, based at Worsley Physio Clinic Manchester have announced their participation in Lymm Triathlon as part of their busy 2010 racing line up.

Uberfit Events are very pleased to be welcoming the team and are eagerly excited to see them in action on the day.


The team boasts a squad of six, each with outstanding track-records; including Matt Moorehouse, Dave Anderson, Paul Savage, Aimee Backhouse, Sam Russell and Christian Preece.


This year the first race the team will be appearing at is the National Duathlon Championships at Clumber Park 6th March 2010, following on from that the team will be competing locally in the North West, nationally and internationally over the coming season.


Matt Backhouse, team manager comments:

“We have a superb blend of proven senior experience with exciting up and coming talent, I fully expect that the team will be on the podium in National and International events over the coming season. At least the athletes should stay injury free with the top quality physiotherapy and sports massage support they will be regularly receiving.”


Athlete Matters are also experienced sports physiotherapists so if there are any injuries incurred, racers on the day will all be in safe hands.

Meet the Team

Matt Moorhouse - Duathlon / Powerman

Over the past few seasons Matt has become one of the leading duathletes in the country with many national series race wins, he has competed for the GB Elite Duathlon team on many occasions


World Powerman Series Events:


2007- 7th Overall/ 1st Brit - Powerman Belgium

17th Overall/2nd Brit World Long Distance Duathlon Championships. Richmond, USA. 2007


2008 - 9th Overall/1st Brit - European Powerman Championship. Holland

14th Overall/2nd Brit - World Long Distance Duathlon Championships. Geel, Belgium.


2009 - 10th Overall/1st Brit - European Powerman Championship. Holland

9th Overall/ 1st Brit - Powerman Germany



National Events:


2009 - Matt won Clumber Park Duathlon and Oulton Park Duathlon National Series Events. Matt finished 3rd Place in the British Elite Drafting Duathlon Championships won by Alistair Brownlee with Matt posting the fastest bike split of the day.


This season Matt plans to race the National Duathlon Series and World Powerman Series with his main aim being this year’s World Powerman Championships in Zofingen, Switzerland.

Dave Anderson - Duathlon / Triathlon

Dave made one of the most spectacular debuts at triathlon in the 2009 season, in his first (and only to date) Olympic distance triathlon of his triathlon career he finished second out of 600 competitors at Tatton. Dave’s time of 1hr 56mins included the fastest swim and runs splits of the day. Now with a full winters training behind him and vastly improved running, cycling and transitions he will be a force to be reckoned with nationally.


As a runner Dave has won numerous National team titles with Belgrave Harriers along with an individual National title at Half Marathon. Dave has also represented Great Britain at Senior level in the World Cross Country Championships.


Dave is relishing the new challenge that triathlon brings. He will be aiming for the Clumber Park National Duathlon Championships, Windsor Elite drafting Triathlon and World Triathlon Championships.


Paul Savage - Duathlon / Triathlon

Paul is a consistent performer at triathlon locally and nationally. In 2009 he finished 5th out of over 700 competitors at the Bala Olympic distance National series event in a time of 1hr 56 minutes. Paul represented Great Britain in the World and European Championships posting top 20 finishes.


Paul has represented GB at Junior and Senior Level in Triathlon. He finished 13th at World Triathlon Championships (30-34 age group) 2008, Vancouver.


The past few months have seen Paul improve greatly with his running now clocking 31 minutes for 10km. His first race of 2010 will be Clumber Park National duathlon Championships, he will then go on to target the European and World triathlon Championships.



Aimee Backhouse / Triathlete

1st British Inter Regional Championships 2007 (youth)
1st Salford ITU sprint age group 2007 (overall female)
1st New Jersey State Championships 2008 (overall female)
1st Greater Manchester X-country championships U-17 2007

2nd Senior Liverpool Olympic Distance Triathlon 2009

Selected as part of 3 woman team for Great Britain at World Youth Olympics Qualifier Mar Menor 2009.


Aimee, aged 17, is one of the bright up and coming talents in British Triathlon, her racing plans for the 2010 season are yet to be finalised.

Sam Russell - Duathlete/Triathlete

National Youth Aquathlon 2006 – 1ST

National Junior 6th place finisher 2009


Sam aged 18, is currently studying at Loughborough where he is training with the Elite triathlon squad, this should result in huge improvements in his first year as a Senior in 2010.

Christian Preece - Duathlete/Triathlete

Christian aged 17 has been accepted to study at Cambridge University next year, he has placed well in National events at both duathlon and triathlon. Being particularly strong at running and cycling he is looking forwards to his first event the Clumber Park duathlon.


2009 results 6th senior at Clumber Park sprint duathlon, 6th at Chester overall, first junior (first Olympic tri 2.06.45), 3rd overall at North West sprint Triathlon, 1st junior, sub 1 hr.
